By the end of summer 2008, the Guthrie kitchen was inspected by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services*, allowing us to expand our culinary presence in the community. Our growth lead us to the launch our new brand-- "Bocca Felice", meaning "Happy Mouth" in Italian; allowing us to demonstrate what we wished for all of our customers to have after eating our savory fare....a Bocca Felice!
Our commitment to using locally-produced ingredients in all our fare, gave Bocca Felice a special place in Cabarrus catering with a new Farm to Table approach. The Cabarrus County government selected Bocca Felice as its leading meeting/event caterer, and further gave BF the opportunity to lead regular "Lunch & Learn" programs to educate its employees on how to prepare healthy, nutritious, seasonal meals at home for themselves and their families.
This opened the doors to many other opportunities to share our programs throughout the community. In 2010 we introduced our first series of culinary classes at the Cabarrus County Libraries, the Cabarrus Senior Center, and at Central United Methodist Church, including our Kids in the Kitchen Summer Cooking Camps.
Since then we have brought our culinary wellness programs to many other organizations throughout Cabarrus and Mecklenburg counties including: Charlotte/Mecklenburg Government, the Cabarrus County School Board, the West Cabarrus YMCA, Lowe's Home Improvement Headquarters, the Piedmont Farmers Market, Healthstat, Lowes, AAA of the Carolinas, Hendrick Motorsports and many other community, church and preschool organizations.
In cooperation with the Cabarrus Food Policy Council (which Gina held a seat for 4 years), we have discovered one of our most fulfilling opportunities to date... reaching out to the children of Cabarrus County Schools to educate them on local-seasonal foods, home-gardening and overall wellness through making healthy food choices.
2015 began our relationship with the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association (CFSA), as we shared in the exclusive endeavor to raise funds to support our local Lomax Incubator Farm when we were a part of an exclusive dinner event in May 2015 featuring Vivian Howard of PBS A Chef's Life, the Avett Brothers, and Craig Rogers of Border Springs Farm. We enjoyed being a part of the September 2016, release of the Chef's Life episode "Onions and Avetts" available to watch at PBS.org. We continue to bring groups small and large to Lomax Farm in our faithful efforts to educate our community on incubator farming, and local food sourcing.
With each year, we feel so blessed as Bocca Felice continues to prosper and our goal to bring Farm to Table fare to our community becomes a reality. We are thrilled to be entering 2018 with new goals, and a new found energy to invite all the members of our community to join us on our journey to greater health and vitality through delicious, locally-inspired eating!
